Brains Trust Circle - Local government councillors - Locale Learning

An invitation to join us

Different councils. Same challenges. Shared solutions.

Every local government area is unique, but the issues that local councils and councillors face are familiar:

  • Community expectations that keep rising
  • Tight budgets that never stretch far enough
  • Governance complexities and unexpected curve-balls

It is like walking a tight-rope whilst juggling balls at the same time. But you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Councils across Australia (and beyond) are navigating the same terrain.

On the last Friday of every month, join a circle of peers who get it and are invested in the success of their communities.

How the Circle works

The Brains Trust Circle is a powerful 45 minutes to connect, learn and share.

Each month, we gather online and focus on ONE topic that is top of mind for councils or communities across Australia.

Think of it as speed dating for councillors (without the romance!) – quick, sharp exchanges of policy ideas and strategic solutions.

No slides. No pre-reading. Learn in real time.
The Brains Trust Circle will help you:
  • See what’s working elsewhere:  apply the ideas to your own local government area

  • Connect with other councillors informally: foster relationships outside formal events and conferences

  • Support one another to succeed: because leadership in local government can feel lonely

Who should join

Councillors and Mayors from across Australia who want to build a network of trusted colleagues outside their LGA, learn from peers, share ideas and find solutions to common problems.

Your host

Emma is our founder & lead facilitator who deeply believes in the power of local leaders to transform local communities. Over her 20 years experience in the local government industry, she has keenly observed the impacts of its adversarial nature on our elected leaders and knows how tough the job can be to lead and govern in today's complex world.

She created Locale Learning with the express intent to support the whole human behind the official title and to provide a new way of supporting those that we elect to lead us.
Emma is a trained lawyer, mediator, conflict coach and engagement specialist. She bridges the gaps between communities, councils and councillors. She has worked in over 40 LGAs and with hundreds of councillors as a trainer, coach, facilitator, legal advisor and Code of Conduct reviewer.
